The Charlotte Checkers are seeking creative, motivated, and passionate Photography Interns for the 2026-27 season. This hands-on opportunity provides valuable experience within a premier AHL hockey organization and is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to build a portfolio in sports photography, digital content creation, and visual storytelling.All applications will be kept on file until the start of the internship program for which candidates apply.
Timeline: September 2026 – April 2027 (or at the completion of Playoffs) Position OverviewThe Photography Intern will work closely with the Creative Services and Partnership Activation teams to capture engaging still photography throughout the season. This role will help produce photo content for social media, sponsorship proof of performance, marketing campaigns, promotional materials, game-day needs, and other team initiatives.
From game nights and practices to community events, player features, and special promotions, this internship offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in professional sports photography and sports marketing.
The Ideal Candidate Will HaveExperience in sports, event, portrait, or digital photographyA portfolio demonstrating strong photography and visual storytellingProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and LightroomStrong understanding of composition, lighting, color, and image editingUnderstanding of social media platforms and digital content trendsExcellent attention to detail and creative storytelling abilitiesAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projectsStrong communication, organizational, and time-management skillsA positive attitude and willingness to collaborate as part of a team
As a Photography Intern, Your Responsibilities May IncludeCapturing high-quality photography during home games, practices, community events, team functions, and special eventsPhotographing players, coaches, fans, game action, entertainment, promotions, and behind-the-scenes momentsCapturing photography for sponsorship proof of performance and partnership activationEditing and retouching photographs for use across digital and marketing platformsPreparing photo assets for social media, website, email marketing, print, and promotional materialsAssisting with player headshots, portraits, team photography, and special photo projectsOrganizing, labeling, archiving, and maintaining digital photo librariesSupporting the Creative Services team with photo needs for marketing campaigns and game-day promotionsCollaborating with staff to ensure photography aligns with the Icemen brand and visual identityAssisting with select game-day entertainment and content initiativesOther duties as assigned
Internship RequirementsCurrently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Photography, Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related fieldHousing and transportation in Charlotte or the surrounding areaAvailability to work home games, select road games, and designated office hoursWorking knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent creative softwareAbility to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality creative standardsPersonal professional camera equipment and laptop preferred but not required Compensation: This is a non-paid internship. School credit may be earned if applicable.
