Communications Specialist

As a member of the City Manager’s Office Communications Division, you will support City departments and Citywide communications projects. The successful candidate will be a content strategist and writer with graphic design skills who can support department communicators to meet communication needs. Other Work Assignments Might Include: • Writing, editing, and proofreading news articles, summaries, reports, and other document types for internal and external audiences • Supporting other individuals and departments as needed; adapting to changing priorities • Participating in internal meetings with ideas for effectively and efficiently communicating information to residents • Regularly communicating and coordinating with City department staff, and also community partners as appropriate, to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the City’s communications goals and policies • Coordinating communication groups, public meetings, and community events related to City outreach goals, policies, and programs • Digital photography • Editing and enhancing photography using Photoshop • Partnering to create inclusive and ADA accessible content for the City website • Drafting and creating social media messages • Assisting in designing advertisements, infographics, and brochures • Assisting with the development of communications strategies for various projects • Researching information and responding to media requests You Should Be Able to: • Communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing • Be a member of a dynamic team that enjoys working together • Perform professional work with minimal supervision • Think creatively and strive to innovate in how we communicate with the community • Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines • Analyze and troubleshoot issues • Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions • Promote a culture of teamwork and communication by working in collaboration and treating coworkers with respect and dignity, and maintaining an open mind to diverse voices and ideas. • Facilitate a working relationship with project stakeholders • Provide timely and detail-oriented customer service • Prepare and present public presentations • Apply integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks • Utilize a computer and relevant software applications • Learn and adapt to rapidly changing information and/or technology General Statement of Duties The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform technical, administrative and research functions for projects or programs requiring specialized training and knowledge along with the ability to plan, coordinate and assist with the implementation of such projects or programs. Acceptable Experience and Training Associate’s degree in Science, Applied Science, General Studies, Communications, Journalism or a closely related field, and 3 years’ experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
