Job Description

Reporting to the Technician Coordinator of the School of Art and Design, the Technology C ensures standard safety regulations are followed in the studios and enforces established safety practices. Assist with specialist software and equipment in designated areas. Work as part of a team of department technologists to assist faculty and students with safe and appropriate equipment, darkroom, studio and computer lab usage.

Essential Functions

Faculty & Student Support

Work as part of a team of department technologists to assist faculty and students with safe and appropriate equipment, darkroom, studio and computer lab usage. Assist faculty in the preparation and organization of course materials and equipment needed for classroom demonstrations. Provide individual darkroom instruction to students based on assessment of students' needs and abilities.Conduct orientations for students using photography facilities that are not currently in photo classes and provide technical assistance as neededRespond to questions concerning equipment/material use during classroom and/or laboratory sessions. Set up and operate media equipment - (such as digital projectors), and materials for classroom and or lab sessions.Facilitate and organize student use of classrooms during open studio hours according to the open studio policies set forth by the photography department.Provide guidance to student workers as additional support.

Equipment & Facility Operations

Prepare, operate and maintain complex, specialized, and highly technical equipment and materials.Maintain department classrooms, darkroom and computer labs ensuring their safeness and usefulness.Work with other technicians on the troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and continuous operation of a variety of equipment and stay current with relevant technology and developments.Research and recommend upgrades for photographic equipment and related media and software.

Equipment Management, Inventory & Documentation

Participate in peer-to-peer trainings and skills sharing with other technicians.Become proficient in equipment management software within the first 3 months of employment. Maintain, troubleshoot and update the equipment management software as needed. Provide support for tool checkout, inventory, and organization, which includes, but not limited to data entry and updates of qualifying students. and faculties who are able to check out equipment.Create clear, accurate, user-friendly technical documentation, signage, and instructions for labs and equipment.

Safety & Supplies

Communicate and coordinate with the office of Environmental Health and Safety to ensure proper procedure and protocols are established and initiated.Maintain, store, deliver and replenish darkroom chemistry equipment/materials as required.Maintain MSDS safety sheets for chemicals in the department.Facilitate the purchase of necessary darkroom supplies, including but not limited to chemistry. Provide the proper purchase information/paperwork to the department coordinator to expedite purchases.Work with Department Coordinator to purchase equipment and supplies for the department.

Additional Responsibilities

Adapt to changes in the work environment, meet deadlines and adjusting approach and prioritizing competing demands.Attend scheduled meetings and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; OR4 years of post-secondary education at an accredited institution, including related coursework in the subject area, plus 3 years of related photographic experience; ORAssociates' degree or 2 years of post-secondary education at an accredited institution, plus 5 years of related professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with traditional darkroom labs and related equipment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must be proficient in the use of:Film and digital cameras, all formatsMac Platform Photoshop, lightroom, Capture One and other relevant photographic/ capture softwareStrobe and continuous lighting equipment Ability and desire to learn, adapt and keep current with evolving industry specific techniques and equipment. Must be able to communicate instructions, methods and techniques succinctly.
Additional Information

Salary

Salary: $40.44 per hour.

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $40.44 per hour with step increments per Salary Schedule 91, after 18 months of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-Sun, 25 hours per week, 32 weeks per year, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department and classes.

Physical Requirements And Work Environment

The working conditions for this position will be primarily in an office space. The physical requirement for this position will require constant sitting, occasional standing, occasional bending, occasional walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
