Food Photographer — Austin, TX

TK Photography Austin is hiring food photographers to join our growing Austin team. Austin's food scene is nationally recognized — world-class BBQ, legendary taco culture, a thriving farm-to-table restaurant community, craft coffee bars, cocktail programs, and hundreds of food trucks. The demand for professional food photography from restaurants, cookbook authors, food brands, and farmers market vendors has never been higher.

Thomas, the owner of TK Photography Austin, personally shoots food — this role is about building out the team to meet client demand. We're looking for photographers who understand light, texture, and the storytelling power of a beautifully shot plate. Whether it's a hero shot of a brisket sandwich, an overhead flat-lay of taco ingredients, or a moody cocktail image on a bar top, you'll need to bring a strong compositional eye and the technical skills to execute it.

Food photography sessions are a mix of studio work and on-location restaurant shoots. On-location means adapting to cramped kitchens, variable ambient light, and working alongside busy kitchen staff during real service prep. Studio sessions offer more control — proper lighting rigs, styled plating, and time to iterate. Both require the same fundamental skills: understanding how light reveals food texture and color, knowing how to style a shot even when a food stylist isn't present, and having the patience and precision to nail the hero image across multiple takes.

Deliverables include menu photography, social media content, packaging shots, and editorial images for press and PR. Clients include restaurants, food brands, cookbook authors, and farmers market vendors. Tethered shooting experience is a plus but not required. A willingness to work in hot kitchens, early morning prep hours, and occasionally under fire service pressure is part of the deal.

You shoot and upload. Our post-production team handles culling, editing, and gallery delivery. Our admin team manages all client communication and scheduling. You focus entirely on the shoot.
