Freelance Photojournalist

Maine Times, an independent statewide print and digital publication, is seeking freelance photojournalists to help define the visual identity of a newsroom committed to depth, integrity, and public service. We believe photojournalism is not merely illustrative — it is evidentiary. It is a form of reporting. This is a freelance position, with the possibility of evolving into a more permanent role as the publication grows. Ideal candidates will demonstrate: • A strong portfolio of published photojournalism with editorial impact • Experience working alongside reporters or independently in the field • Comfort documenting sensitive or emotionally charged environments with discretion and professionalism • A deep understanding of ethical visual reporting — including consent, context and accuracy • Familiarity with Maine’s geography, communities, and institutional landscape is preferred, but not required
