Salary Range: $55,000.00–$60,500.00 per annum.Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Senior Design Manager, the Photographer provides high-quality still photography and supports basic video storytelling for the Communication department’s initiatives across the Honolulu Museum of Art. From this founding intention grew the museum of today, with a world‑class encyclopedic collection of more than 55,000 works of art, representing a stunning breadth of places and eras, from all corners of the globe and from the ancient past to the present day.Required QualificationsA bachelor’s degree in visual arts, Communications, or a related field with two years of experience in a media related field such as photography, digital publishing, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Advanced knowledge of digital image applications, image capture devices, and studio lighting setup.Strong photography and editing skills, versatile in architectural, event, studio, and product photography.Basic video production and audio editing skills.Experience managing and organizing photo assets, including maintaining an efficient and searchable archive.Possesses a valid driver’s license and the ability to transport equipment to multiple locations.Possesses a versatile creative mindset and has a conceptual/visual approach to photography.Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and media programs on MacOS.Honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment, enthusiasm, and follow‑through.Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.Desired QualificationsKnowledge of art, art history, and the local and national art scene.Experience in a museum, arts and culture, or nonprofit organization with multiple worksites.Understanding of and dedication to advancing the Honolulu Museum of Art's identity, vision, and values.Demonstrated ability to schedule, manage timelines independently, and effectively coordinate project logistics across key internal departments.Contributes to the museum's communication campaigns and other needs through photography and basic video/audio editing.Develops visual storytelling strategies by providing high-quality still photography and event coverage for exhibitions, gallery installations, membership drives, conservation projects, educational programs, and all other initiatives as assigned.Provides high-quality photography for advertisements, social media campaigns, and websites.Produces photographic assets for research, catalogues, scholarly use, publications, and shop merchandise.Manages and contributes to the museum's photographic archives.Manages an in‑house photo studio and is responsible for the upkeep, care, and expert configuration of all lighting and photo equipment.Maintains an organized digital media archive shared across departments.Assists departments across the museum in finding appropriate photos for various projects and initiatives.Demonstrates a commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility.In partnership with HR, supports the leadership team in ensuring equitable experiences and promoting a culture of belonging.Other duties as assigned.CompensationThe Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. General office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexible scheduling as appropriate.
