Junior Digital/Graphic Designer

POSITION SUMMARY: The Junior Digital/Graphic Designer will join the Academy's in house-design department to work on the implementation of Academy graphics under the direction of the Creative Director and the Creative Studio Project Manager. While this position will be expected to work full-time in the Academy offices, at the moment this position will be primarily remote, with approximately once a week on-site work. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and production: Create, redesign, revise, or assist in the design and production of Academy print materials and digital assets, including: Print: Graphics and materials for the Academy and its exhibits, events, collections, programs, and initiatives—e.g. EXPERIENCE: A qualified candidate will have a combination of the following experience and/or equivalent education: 1—2 years experience in a professional creative setting Degree/certificate in new media/digital design, visual/graphic design, art direction, or a related field—or equivalent coursework KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Branding, design, and typography: Understand branding and graphic design concepts, follow identity and style guidelines, set type beautifully, and apply a refined modern design aesthetic to all work Digital/design platforms: Proficiently use Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator (experience with Lightbox, AfterEffects, and other design, video edition, and animation software—as well as basic experience with CSS/HTML5 video, animation, and/or UX—are a plus) Digital standards: Understand and apply current digital development best practices and digital production techniques Image retouching: Manipulate and retouch photographs, including color correcting, masking, composting, and up-sizing Illustration: Create and modify vector artwork Collaboration: Work as part of a team, take direction, ask questions, be responsive and respectful, and seek help when needed Interpersonal: Take initiative, work efficiently, and communicate clearly with coworkers, internal and external partners, and museum guests from different backgrounds, identities, and experiences Organization: Be organized and responsible, and work on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Office apps: Work well within Google and Microsoft apps (experience with Slack and Asana are a plus) Mission-alignment: Have a passion for nature, science and the future of life on our planet Note: An online of PDF portfolio must accompany your application.
