**Context of Job**
The Assistant AD, Broadcast & Production at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation (DACR), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of “Develop champions. Elevate UD. Fight for Delaware.” The Assistant AD, Broadcast & Production will oversee and drive all streaming production and broadcast content on behalf of the University of Delaware's Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation. This position will be charged with increasing Delaware's video streaming online across our 22 varsity sports, cheer, and various recreation and club services and will oversee a team of student interns, one full-time position, and one part-time coordinator. The Assistant AD, Broadcast & Production will be in charge of executing the digital streaming strategy and leading the broadcast production for the External Relations area in Athletics and Campus Recreation. The Assistant AD, Broadcast & Production will work closely across the External relations staff, including with multimedia, communications, and marketing teams, as well with various contacts inside the unit (coaches, administrators and staff) and outside the unit (vendors, partners, businesses, Alumni, Development, OCM, UMS, and parallel staff members at other intuitions). The incumbent will work to serve all 22 sports as fully as possible and to manage staffing, production and run of show for all streams and lead all oversight and logistical preparation for broadcast production by outside vendor. While their primary focus is broadcast, this position should be able to help creatively and proactively ideate story angles and features in collaboration with the communications team as needed.
**Major Responsibilities**
***Leadership***
• Supervise, lead, and develop full-time Assistant Director, Broadcast & part time Broadcast Coordinator
• Oversee student worker initiative; hire, train, and crew students for stream productions. Work individually with each student to create a training plan suited to their development.
• Oversee, direct, produce and coordinate the stream productions of sporting events, press events, special events, etc.
• Supervise game day linear production.
• Actively source and hire freelance production staff including talent.
• Direct the annual broadcast budget, forecasting operational needs and allocating funds across staffing, freelance support, student employment, equipment replacement cycles, technology enhancements, and production initiatives while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
• Identify funding opportunities and manage the preparation of grant proposals, resulting in the successful support of capital equipment investments, facility upgrades, and strategic broadcast initiatives.
***Broadcast and Streaming***
• Develop, staff and manage a streaming schedule for 150+ sporting events, press events and other special events, etc.
• Direct, produce and coordinate the streaming productions of sporting events, press events, selection shows and other special events, etc.
• Lead process of scheduling linear broadcasts on local Regional Sports Networks (RSN) and hiring linear television production crews.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all broadcast streaming operations during conference tournaments, coordinating with production teams, vendors, and conference officials to ensure seamless live event coverage
• Successfully maintain a variety of broadcast equipment and be able to proactively troubleshoot technical issues when they arise in studio equipment including Ross Carbonite, Mira, Xpression, and Broadcast style cameras and Fly Pack Equipment including Tricaster TC1, 3Play, LiveBook GFX, various audio mixers.
• Troubleshoot various media systems within Athletics such as Daktronics Video Boards and ShowControl.
• Creatively develop streaming graphics package and broadcast assets.
• Maintain and implement ESPN graphic package standards, ensuring all streaming broadcasts remain current, compliant, and aligned with network branding requirements
• Take an active role in increasing volume and quality of our streams to provide a top caliber product to our fans. Help to create highlights of events and then distribute to CAA schools, website, social media channels, local media, and media requests.
• Collaborate with University Media Services on equipment engineering/maintenance and production staffing.
• Serve as director of football broadcast operations for production staffing and gameday priorities, coordinating personnel, logistics, and operational needs to support successful live broadcast
• Maintain understanding of current broadcasting trends and style. s and assist with sharing this knowledge with the Hens All Access team.
• Ensure compliance with all laws and NCAA regulations governing promotion of student athletes as well as internal Delaware rules and regulations on video distribution/ usage.
• Coordinate with necessary parties to ensure that sponsor elements are properly ideated, obtained, and activated during streaming and linear broadcasts.
• Recommend new broadcasting ideas to help support the creative visions of the External department.
• Lead development/upgrade process of broadcast systems and facilities.
Miscellaneous
• Support storytelling and other multimedia needs.
• Assist with proactive maintenance and support of all video archiving efforts.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Serve as primary broadcast contact for affiliate conference broadcasts and external vendors.
**Qualifications**
• Bachelor’s degree and three of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Audio/Visual Communications, Design, Production or Journalism preferred.
• Proficiency with video production software including Adobe Creative Suite.
• Advanced knowledge of live production process, camera operation, different camera and lens types, proper filming techniques, microphones, and production switching equipment.
• Strong knowledge of current and emergent audio/video technologies, video board operation systems, web architecture, online design and live streaming, multimedia communications and video production.
• Highly motivated, proactive, energetic, creative and positive.
• Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
