Photo Assistant

I'm seeking a photo assistant who is compassionate, detail-oriented, and energetic. I'm gallery-represented a conceptual photographer focused on creating portraits that feature underrepresented stories. I'm currently working on a series of portraits of autistic adults and a series on stories of pregnancy, infertility, and birth.

Studio experience is helpful but not necessary, as I can train assistants in use of the equipment.

The most important thing is a deep commitment to engage with the work and connect with the model-collaborators. These shoots feature people who have been through a lot in their lives, and the shoots are intended as a ritual of witness and healing. There is laughter and there are tears. I want an assistant who stays connected and supports the depth of the experience for the model-collaborators.

There are also many logistical and creative details to attend to, and I love to work with assistants who are self-motivated and look for opportunities to help and support both the technical aspects of the shoot as well as the interpersonal dynamics. It's also a big plus if you have a strong visual eye and are a perfectionist -- someone who will notice and correct the one hair that's out of place or the one wrinkle in the backdrop.

Shoots last 2-6 hours and I shoot 1-2 times a week, typically scheduled Mon-Thurs or Sat between 9am and 1pm.
