PHOTO ASSISTANT — FREELANCE / PER-SHOOT

Steven Barston Photography is looking to add a reliable freelance photo assistant for commercial, advertising, portrait and editorial shoots in the Chicago area.

This is a per-shoot / freelance position, not a full-time role. Shoot days and hours will vary depending on the assignment.

What I’m looking for:

Some photography or photo-assisting experience preferredComfortable handling and setting up cameras, lenses, stands, grip and lighting equipmentFamiliarity with Profoto or other professional lighting systems is a plusAble to help with load-in, setup, lighting adjustments, breakdown and load-outOrganized and careful with equipmentAble to take direction and work efficiently without needing constant supervisionGood instincts and the ability to anticipate what might be needed nextProfessional and comfortable interacting with clients, agency teams, talent and crewReliable, punctual and easy to work withAble to lift and move typical photography and grip equipmentValid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferredI’m less concerned with someone knowing absolutely everything than I am with finding someone who is smart, dependable, motivated and genuinely interested in photography. I’m happy to teach the right person how I work.

The work can range from relatively simple portrait and corporate assignments to larger commercial productions, so I’m looking for someone who can adapt to different kinds of shoot days.

Location: Chicago & surrounding suburbs
Position: Freelance / per shoot
Compensation: Paid — rate based on experience and scope of shoot
