Photo & Imaging Lab Assistant

Role Description The Photo & Imaging Lab Assistant is an hourly role responsible for supporting daily operations in the imaging and photo lab. Expect 35-40 hours per week. This position is based in Baltimore, MD, with core responsibilities performed on-site. Day-to-day duties include preparing and handling artwork and photographic materials, operating imaging and lab equipment under established protocols, and assisting with digital file management, scanning, and printing processes. The role involves performing visual checks on images and prints, documenting lab activities, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and collaborating with team members to meet project timelines and quality standards. The Lab Assistant will communicate regularly with supervisors and colleagues to clarify project requirements, report issues, and ensure smooth workflow across projects.

Duties Include:

• Customer Service hours at the front Desk are mandatory

• Taking orders in a retail environment

• Scanning roll film on professional capture equipment

• Capturing high-resolution files on the Imacon X5 and/or Phase One Systems

• XL Flatbed scanning

• Document scanning

• QC on imaging projects

• Color correcting through Photoshop, Capture One, and other professional level capture software

• Retouching digital images

• Communication with clients (emailing and phone calls)

• Assisting print specialist with larger print orders and editions; including hand-

trimming prints, sleeving prints and organizing

• Pigment Printing on Epson medium and large format printers

• Packaging orders

• General Film Lab support

• Organizing film pick up bins and racks

• Color and B&W Processing

• Setting up RA4 processor for darkroom rentals

Qualifications

Strong Quality Control and Analytical Skills to review images, prints, and materials for accuracy, consistency, and defects.Hands-on experience or familiarity with Laboratory Equipment and core Laboratory Skills, including safe handling, calibration, and routine maintenance.Effective Communication skills for collaborating with team members, following written procedures, and providing clear status updates.Attention to detail, organizational skills, and reliability in managing multiple projects and deadlines in a lab environment.Basic proficiency with digital imaging tools and computer literacy; experience with photo editing or print workflows is a plus.Ability to stand, move, and handle artwork and materials safely throughout the workday, following all safety guidelines.Previous experience in a photo lab, print shop, museum, gallery, or related fine art setting is beneficial but not required.Required:

Must have 1-3 years of photography and imaging experience; preferred higher education in

photography or related field. Adobe skills are a must (Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom). Able to

work in high volume workflow. Excellent in team format but adept at individually focused

tasks. Needs to be Communicative.
