The PVS will be part of a Webby- nominated team working to change the way society views and treats farm animals. Located at our 300-acre flagship Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY, the PVS has unfettered access to life on Sanctuary and the approximately 800 animals—herds of cows, flocks of sheep, droves of pigs, turkeys, hens, roosters, and ducks—that call Farm Sanctuary home. Responsibilities: Shooting and Producing \\- Responsible for capturing life on Sanctuary at our flagship Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY \\- Capture milestones and daily life—the herds moving to pasture in the spring, the pigs rooting around the pig woods or chilling in a favorite mud puddle before disappearing into the blossoming chamomile \\- Document rescues, accompanying the rescue team when appropriate \\- Conduct photo research for editorial, marketing, and programmatic partners \\- Shoot and edit new photos and edit archived photos for the bi-annual Sanctuary magazine \\- Shoot and edit new photos and edit archived photos for the annual calendar \\- Produce social-friendly short videos and clips for use across platforms \\- Photograph VIP tours and staff as assigned \\- Photograph special events; capture stills and produce short reels or videos for internal events Editing and Archiving \\- Toning, retouching, optimizing, and watermarking digital photos \\- Sizing images for print, web, and social \\- Editing, uploading, cataloging, and assigning proper metadata to new material in the DAM \\- Pulling, creating, and editing collections from the DAM for editorial use \\- Fulfilling stakeholder requests Other \\- Maintain equipment at optimal levels \\- Remain current with relevant creative software \\- Remain current with the latest social trends and distribution opportunities and specs \\- Mentor visual media intern \\- Contribute ideas for visual storytelling and collaborate with Communications team colleagues \\- Collaborate with Communications team colleagues on editorial ideas including Sanctuary storytelling, animal stories, marketing, and advocacy campaigns \\- Attend ideas and assigning meetings \\- Keep equipment housed in lockbox onsite Qualifications: \\- Photo portfolio and/or video reel submission required \\- Passion for communicating compelling stories through a visual medium \\- Photo and video editing skills, experience with Mac OS, Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop, and/or Adobe Lightroom \\- Motion graphics experience a plus (Adobe After Effects) \\- Knowledge of photographic techniques such as lighting and composition \\- Ability to work within deadlines while maintaining standards \\- Strong understanding of photo and video optimizing, including for social media \\- Experience with animal photography/videography preferred but not necessary \\- Strong communication skills needed to manage working with an off-site supervisor \\- Great organizational skills \\- Results-driven and a sense of urgency \\- Self- starter and self-driven, ability to work independently \\- Knowledge of photo research sources, from photo agencies and archives to boutique collections \\- A positive, solution-oriented attitude and incredible communication skills \\- A natural drive to pitch new projects, video’s and photo essays \\- Comfort with working in sanctuary setting near all species in Farm Sanctuary’s care, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese \\- Must be able to capture photos and video footage year-round in a variety of weather conditions Specifications: \\- Full-time, non-exempt position \\- Located in Watkins Glen, NY \\- Onsite shared housing may be available to assist with relocation \\- The salary range for this position is $49,000-55,000 \\- Work schedule may vary; occasional weekend events and rescue coverage may be required \\- Competitive benefits package, including 13 paid holidays; generous paid time off; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 403(b) plan; flexible spending accounts; long-term disability insurance and free access to the CALM meditation app Farm Sanctuary is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
