Photographer/Videographer, Cox First Media

Photographers are key positions in Cox First Media’s drive to be the digital news and information leader in our market. The Dayton Daily News is part of Cox First Media , which also includes the Springfield News-Sun and Journal-News. The person in this position may be asked to do work that focuses on one of the other brands in Cox First Media, depending on staffing and needs. Responsibilities • Tell compelling stories visually with photos and videos, either as standalone digital content or in collaboration with other planned content • Displays a strong sense of urgency, high energy and tenacity to get the best, most compelling visuals for digital audiences and for print • Process and manage photos, videos, photo galleries and other visual products, including inputting content into the system and optimizing for digital • Works in close communication with an editor, but exercises a great deal of independent judgement and action in the field, as well as independent thinking and judgement on deadline • Provides accurate, complete captions for photos and video content • Cover spot news with visuals and reporting from active scenes in collaboration with other staff • Uses time effectively and efficiently, producing an acceptable volume of work • Demonstrates understanding of visual bias and avoids it • Aid other content producers in training or best practices when they must gather visuals, including from cell phones • Use metrics to inform what content is created and distributed on digital channels, curating their work to best meet our audience where they are • Work with other departments in Cox First Media for visuals that may help in Marketing, Audience or other promotional needs • Handles other assignments as needed, showing flexibility and adaptability • Ideally looking for at least 3 years of experience in photo and video content creation in news, journalism, communications or related field Knowledge of equipment and software programs needed to create and edit photos and video (such as Photoshop, video editing tools, etc.)
