Digital Photography Instructor (2nd) for International Student Program

Overview

Our organization is looking for a responsible and energetic 2nd photography instructor to join our team. In this position, you will be working with students in our destination class: Exploring Digital Photography and Alaska: The Last Frontier.

Our program is based in New York and provides accredited college courses in landmark destinations throughout the United States.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The 2nd Photography Instructor will work alongside our Lead Photography Instructor and Site Coordinator under the supervision of the Program Director to help plan and execute the class schedule. This person must be outgoing, comfortable working with student groups ages 20-26 and be willing and physically capable of joining the group excursions and activities.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. This person must be comfortable communicating by phone and video conferencing and will work independently a majority of the time.

Responsibilities:

Approach students during the day and ask if they need help with cameras, answer photography related questions, help plan and deliver engaging and interactive lessons to students in digital photography including basic editing skills.
Join student groups on outdoor daytrips, including walking tours, museum visits, and other activities relevant to the class in order to be hands-on teaching photography skills on the field.
Use Google Classroom to grade and provide feedback on photo assignments.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
Professional photography experience
Experience and/or ability to teach student groups of up to 45 in a classroom setting
Great knowledge/interest in the culture and landscape of Alaska
Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational abilities and interpersonal communication skills.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
International experience is a big plus, preferably living abroad experience and/or working with international students.

Work Schedule:

This class will run 4-5 times per year (usually in December and March) with dates given in advance for planning purposes. Classes are scheduled as listed below and instructors are expected to be available for the entire schedule since they will be touring with students to provide hands-on instruction.

Day 1: 10AM - 7PM

Day 2: 7AM - 6PM + 10PM - 1AM for Aurora

Day 3: 7AM - 8PM

Day 4: 8AM - 6PM

Additionally, instructors can expect to spend an additional 4-8 hours before/after class for grading assignments and student reporting. These grading periods are remote and can be done at your convenience.

Pay Rate:

This is an Independent Contract position paying a salary of $1,800 per class. (for 4 consecutive days) Your first class would be a paid training at $20/HOUR.

Additional Information:

Serious candidates should be willing and available to participate in training on December 5-8, 2026 and then work the next class December 9-12, 2026.

You must also be available for our upcoming classes on:

March 13-16 and 17-20, 2027.
