Academy of Art University offers a rewarding employment experience for those who excel in a dynamic environment and who can consistently deliver high-caliber customer service. ** ** **** Architecture Shop Technician Academy of Art University is hiring a Shop Manager for Architecture and Industrial Design. **As Shop Manager you will:** * * * * Act as shop liaison with department directors and faculty to coordinate and ensure responsiveness to all curriculum needs * Develop and host model making, digital modeling, digital fabrication, and construction technique demonstrations as assigned * Create digital fabrication, model making, and construction technique examples to display both online and onsite * Respond to students’ and instructors’ questions regarding model shop and digital fabrication facilities * Assist students in the fabrication of models and related projects * Train and provide for the safety of all students, faculty and staff using the shop, including hosting safety orientations * Report and follow up on any instances of injury, theft or damage that take place in the Model Shop * Maintain and update all OSHA/HAZMAT documents pertaining to the shop and overall site * Maintain and update safety manuals in compliance with fire and safety requirements * Attend safety meetings pertaining to the Lab Resources Department and the University at large * Coordinate and oversee shop use by other AAU Departments * Interview, train and supervise all Model Shop Technicians * Set the schedule for Model Shop Technicians and ensure that time sheets are submitted to Payroll on time * Write and update shop machine operations and shop manuals * Issue and recover tools for students and instructors * Clean, repair, and maintain all tools and machinery in the shop * Regularly inventory shop tools and supplies * Monitor receiving area * Manage requisition and record-keeping for all required tools, materials, and services necessary for the functioning of the Model Shop * Coordinate with department administration to develop and adhere to an annual budget for the Model Shop * Research future equipment and material acquisitions * Participate in all shop renovations * Perform general maintenance, construction and fabrication as assigned by the Director * Coordinate and facilitate any special exhibits, such as technical workshops, visiting lectures, Spring Show, accreditation visits, etc * Supervise and assist as needed in preparing classrooms for daily classes * Assist with and organize staff around model storage, photography, and archiving * Assist with and organize staff around studio preparedness for the beginning and end of each semester, as well as visits from the public, potential students, and outside schools **Requirements:** * * * * Must possess at least three years of professional shop experience and have knowledge working with plastics, wood, metal and paints. * Possess at least two - three years of supervisory experience in an educational or industrial design environment. **HOW TO APPLY:** _In order to be considered, please send your resume torecruitment@academyart.edu or create a profile on our website here:_ Academy of Art _For further information on the Academy:_ Academy of Art ** * * * ** The Academy of Art is an equal opportunity employer.
