PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: $72,000 - $88,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Any offer of employment with the BBC will be conditional upon you having the right to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Money, Work &Tech, is the team in BBC News responsible for bringing our audiences the latest in economics and business news, unpacking the complexities of finance and economics to give people the information they need to make the most of their money and their career.

As a Video Journalist for Money, Work & Tech in our New York bureau, you’ll work alongside a team of reporters and producers, covering everything from corporate news, personal finance, economic policy and the moments when they conincide

You’ll be responsible for shooting and editing BBC News videos that will appear on the BBC's news channel and be published on the BBC News website and social media accounts. You will also help operate the live studio for our daily TV business bulletin.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC News' Money, Work & Tech team plays a key role in making sense of the some of the most important stories in news, helping our audiences make sense of their own finances and how businesses and the economy influence them. The team has an established presence in the US, in the New York bureau, which plays a key role in reaching a global audience.

We are looking for a creative, self-starting video journalist to produce, shoot and edit video content from the NY bureau for all BBC News platforms - from its social accounts including TikTok and Instagram, to the BBC News Channel and website.

You will work closely with correspondents as part of a small bureau unit, while collaborating with the wider BBC Money, Work & Tech team in London and elsewhere.

This is a fast paced role where you’ll produce shoot and edit video that makes BBC News' reporting accessible, engaging and trustworthy. You will also help maintain and operate a TV studio for a daily live bulletin from New York.

You will bring ideas on how we can experiment with new formats, finding imaginative ways to explain complex stories and help audiences understand the complex worlds of business and economics.

It’s a hands-on role where you’ll need sharp news judgement, strong storytelling skills and the confidence to try new approaches.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

- Shoot, edit and produce engaging video content for BBC News under tight deadlines
- Generate and develop original story ideas and distinctive video content
- Operate a studio for a live TV bulletin. 
- Work collaboratively with other teams from BBC News in the New York bureau as well as the wider Money, Work & Tech team mainly based in London.
- Respond quickly to breaking news
- Use strong visual storytelling to distil complex subjects into accessible, compelling content
- Ensure that the output meets BBC editorial policy standards and can sustain public, legal, political and media scrutiny and will work to support the BBC’s objective to grow the value we deliver to all audiences across the UK and globally.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

-Experience of professional filming and editing of video for news or corporate platforms
-Track record of producing content for social platforms
-Experience of working for a reputable news organisation
-Experience or demonstrable interest in business, finance and economics.
-Ability to deliver to tight deadlines as required

DESIRED:

-Experience of incorporating data and charts into finished material
-Ability to work with numerous different staff members and across teams
-Ability to set up and operate live equipment
