Videographer/Photographer – Seewe African Dance Conference 2026

Overview: The Seewe African Dance Conference is New York City's only Guinean-centered West African dance conference, founded in 2005 by Mouminatou Camara, a former principal dancer with Guinea's national dance company. The 2026 conference runs October 8–11 at Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn, bringing together 15+ master teachers, dozens of live drummers, and 500+ participants across multiple national traditions (Guinea, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, and others).
We're looking for a videographer/photographer to document the conference — classes, performances, and community moments — creating a visual record for grant reporting, marketing, and the organization's archive. See what you'd be documenting on Instagram: instagram.com/seeweafricandance.

Responsibilities:
Photograph and/or film classes in session — instructors leading, live drumming, and participants engaged across age groups
Document key moments: the welcome/opening, performances, the community feedback circle, and informal gathering time between classes
Capture a mix of wide shots (scale and energy of a full studio) and close/medium shots (technique, expression, individual moments)
Prioritize shots that show master teachers demonstrating movement, the dancer–drummer relationship, multigenerational participation (children dancing alongside adults), and the range of traditions represented
Work around classes in progress without disrupting instruction
Deliver a curated, organized set of edited photos and/or video clips after the conference

Qualifications:
Experience with event, dance, or live-performance photography and/or videography
Comfortable shooting in a studio setting with movement, live drumming, and variable light, without disrupting classes
Own equipment (camera, lenses, and any lighting or audio gear needed)
Available for some or all of the conference dates, October 8–11, 2026
A plus: familiarity with West African dance or music traditions, or prior experience documenting cultural events

Schedule & Deliverables:
Conference dates: Thu, Oct 8 – Sun, Oct 11, 2026Venue: Mark Morris Dance Center, Brooklyn (near Atlantic Terminal)
Coverage can be full-conference or focused on select high-priority days and sessions — exact days/times to be scheduled with the conference coordinator in advance.
Priority coverage windows: Sat, Oct 10, 6–9 pm — a special program element; the must-capture block of the conference
Sat, Oct 10 & Sun, Oct 11 — afternoon, evening and night sessions
Any day — evening and night sessions, after 6 pm
Daytime coverage on Thursday and Friday is optional and can be added by arrangement.
Deliverables: A digital gallery of edited, selected photos
Short video clips and/or a highlight reel suitable for social media
Raw files retained and made available to Seewe on request
Turnaround: edited deliverables within a few weeks of the conference (exact timeline to be agreed with the candidate).

Compensation & Logistics:
Rate scales with how much coverage is booked, from the Sat 6–9 pm must-capture block alone up through the full run: Block only: Budget $175 / Fair-market $325Sat & Sun: Budget $450 / Fair-market $800Full Thu–Sun: Budget $750 / Fair-market $1,400Exact rate and scope confirmed with each candidate.
