Watershed Staff Scientist / Geologist

Pacific Watershed Associates is seeking multiple Watershed Staff Scientist / Geologist applicants to serve as core members of our inter-disciplinary teams, located in both our McKinleyville and Petaluma, California offices, performing watershed restoration planning, design, and construction projects throughout Northern and Central California. PWA is seeking qualified applicants for entry to mid-level or higher positions as Watershed Staff Scientists / Geologists who will be based in either our McKinleyville (Humboldt County) or our Petaluma (Sonoma County) offices. Working under the direct supervision of PWA Management, Senior Professional Scientists, and Project Managers, the Watershed Staff Scientist / Geologist will assist with watershed evaluations and assessments to develop, design, and oversee construction of upland erosion control and stream habitat restoration, water resources and water quality investigations, and rural road/property development projects. • Enter field data utilizing MS Excel and MS Access, and PWA proprietary software • Download and/or digitize field data from Avenza, GPS or mylar overlays of field maps utilizing Google Earth and ArcGIS • Manage time and work efficiently • Collaborate and communicate effectively as part of the PWA team • Work collaboratively with partner organizations, regulatory agencies, and private landowners • Assist PWA staff in preparing technical documents, grant proposals, and County, State and Federal permit applications for natural resource-related projects • Oversee heavy equipment operations during the implementation of erosion control, sediment reduction, stream/fish habitat improvement and watershed restoration projects • Perform site inspections, monitoring, and sampling as required to meet project compliance Minimum Knowledge, Competencies & Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology is preferred; but related fields will be considered: natural resources, forestry, hydrology, environmental science, etc. The Watershed Staff Scientist / Geologist will spend their time between the field and the office, with the potential for remote work available based on COVID-19 state and county regulations.
